Vado - Large on the Streets

"Stop it five, you all talk..."

Anthem status. So the first time I heard this on my iPod shuffle rotation, it was immediately followed by Big L's classic, "Ebonics".

How sick is this album art?!?!?!

I saw this a few days ago on Nah Right.

The only thing that's real.

I have no "empire of dirt", nothing close. But broken thoughts I have plenty - those that come with a sense of disconnection that somehow feels like being "still right here".

Mos Def ft. Talib Kweli: History

"Everybody act accordin to the season that they born in..."

Flip the dirty bird - Video

There's no way I can describe this. Word to Charlie, Mikey and Anthony for this madness.

New Music: Louwop

2009 has already been a great year for the hip hop landscape, and its good to see that there's no stopping that trend as we inch towards 2010. Here's some newness from Toronto-native Louwop, alongside Shad K and Zaki Ibrahim.

Boogeyman + Madvillian

I didn't think the possibility of MF DOOM and Mos Def sharing the stage would ever realize, so when I found out they were on the bill at the Kool Haus on January 27, I was quick to shell out 50 dollars for the show. I've been to a fair share of Stones Throw parties, but I've never seen DOOM live. I have seen Mos in concerts before, but I really wasn't happy that the Ecstatic tour (featuring Jay Electronica) didn't come to Toronto. Anyways, all that aside, I'm just really looking forward to January 27. Here's some goodness that'll keep me going until then.

Touque on, Beats on blast

The fall jacket days are quickly coming to an end, and I'm still struggling with the fact that sunset is only a few hours following lunch. Fortunately, this winter brings plenty to look forward to: an opportunity to build a new workspace, a renewed vow to hit the hills more before the edges on my board get rusty, and plenty of new beats to compete for the 16 gigs of memory on the iPod.

Rock the Bells 2009

Thanks to the dude who gave us the wristbands to get to the floor. Performances of the day:

K'naan - i couldn't get there in time for his whole set, but from the sound of it, i definitely should have. highlight: seeing 'waving flag' live on a bright summer afternoon. it's an experience.

Reflection Eternal - someone was fuckin with his mic levels, but talib and hi tek threw it down.

58 'til infinity

My favorite MJ moments, in no particular order:
  • Trying to do the Smooth Criminal lean and falling on my face. Don't lie - I know you tried it
  • Being amazed at the CGI in all of the videos from Dangerous - especially "Remember the time"
