Collection Update

I'll be gone for a few days Trinidad and Tobago to live life like a Malibu commercial, but the Spring cleaning continues on the online store. Everything is 50% off, and I'm throwing in free shirts in all orders over $25. Shipping will be delayed for a few days until I'm back.

As for the upcoming collection - I've been working on this for a while now, and for the first few weeks I was just illustrating whatever came to mind but didn't follow any kind of cohesive theme. More recently though, after watching a string of Wes Anderson movies and going through old magazines, something came to mind that unleashed a tidal wave of new ideas. Not just that, it made me feel like I did when I first started the project, and provided a direction for everything to follow under the Bombayhustle name. This creative direction has led me to scrap a lot of the initial concepts I had slated to release for Spring. With this in mind, and the fact that its already late to release a Spring collection, I'm going to abandon the fashion calendar and launch it only when its ready and I feel its complete. I'm thinking sometime in Mid-May.

The Merchants of Green Coffee

For those who don't know about the coffee experience at the Merchants of Green Coffee, head over to the Queen & DVP area in Toronto and make yourselves familiar. Definitely the most educational coffee experience I've ever had. Thanks to the hombre Sumit for the find. You'll probably see Morgan there, pictured below in a charcoal Heart of the City tee.

La Familia @ WMC 2010

Somewhere between the consumption of 12 Liters of Vodka, some of these insane individuals managed to focus their iPhone cameras long enough to take a somewhat coherent picture of their trip to Miami for WMC 2010 earlier this year. Respect points for everyone rockin the 'hustle, and bitch points to anyone that didn't.

Born for this?

I just registered myself for a 10 kilometer run taking place in all of 4 weeks. I've done some research and am following an intense 4-week training plan designed to meet my goal of not dying before the finish line. According to the training plan, yesterday was a "rest" day but I couldn't just sign up and wait a day, so I warmed up and did a 2.5K on the treadmill, mainly to keep my conscience clean and make sure I'd be physically able to handle today's regimen. This afternoon at lunchtime, I headed off on a 5K course around the workplace and was surprisingly able to complete it with my legs and pride intact - for now. The natural adrenaline rush has me in a false sense of confidence about progress so far. There's a lot of hurdles to overcome, because anyone from Toronto knows that running from Yonge and Eglinton to Fort York is no joke. Let's see how it goes. I'll be blogging about my progress to make myself more accountable.

Celebrity steez

I met Rupinder a few years ago through a common friend after I saw a movie of his called "Amal", about an honest-hearted rickshaw driver, his chance encounter with a wealthy businessman. What follows is for you to find out. Its an amazing movie and was highly acclaimed (but didn't get the shine it deserved because of another Indian-centric flick with a larger budget released around the same time). Anyways, check out the trailer for "Amal" Below - Rupinder plays the lead role of the rickshaw driver.

After the movie, I contacted him and told him about the Bombayhustle project, and how it was inspired in part by the honesty of the cab drivers I met in Mumbai. I gave him a couple of shirts, and he recently sent me this picture of himself in the "Heart of the City" tee - taken in South Africa in what looks like the set for Jurassic Park 4.

Massive props to Rupinder for his work and for supporting Bombayhustle. You can find out more about him at http://www.rupindernagra.com/.

"Good to Great" from R+I Creative: Jeff Staple

Directed by R&I Creative and found on Hypebeast, the following is an exceptional video of a conversation with Jeff Staples, Founder of Staple Design and Reedspace.

From R+I Creative: "Good to Great (Brand RMX Episode 2) gives us a glimpse into Jeff Staple's foundations and work ethic from his early design career at Rawkus Records in the mid 90's to his becoming one of the most influential people in street culture today.

In addition to being the founder and the Creative Director of Staple Design (Reed Space, Nike, LVMH, Levi's, Sony, Kia Soul) since 1997, Jeff Staple is also the owner of the Reed Space shops which can be found in New York and Tokyo.

In this conversation, Staple manages to inspire through his wisdom and attention to detail while not coming off as being preachy.

It's all about the small details!"
